  • Notes
    • Family tradition said that William Weakley, father of William Rooke Weakley, (Son of Amelia Rooke and William Weakley) was one of the Life-Guards of Queen Victoria in the 1830s and was killed in Spain while on a vacation watching a duel between two Dons.

When William left with the military he never knew about his child William Rooke Weakley.

Researched by Mrs. Lucy Ripley, (in Yorkshire, England) to prove or disprove this family tradition. Lucy wrote to the Editor of the Household Brigade Magazine (Horse Guards, Whitehall) London, to find information on William Weakley. Her letter was passed on to the Headquarters of the Regiment, who sent the following information:
?Number 371 ? William Weakley, served as a Private in the First Life Guards. Enlisted 1st Life Guards on 25 Oct 1828
Age on enlistment: 20 years nil months
      Trade on Enlistment: Farmer
Discharged by purchase on 28 Dec 1833
      Total service ? 5 years, 67 days
      Character on discharge: Very good.
(According to our records he was not married during his service.)?

This and other information also personal stories have been handed down from Emily Hales Duncan Weakley wife of William Rooke Weakley, (Son of Amelia Rooke and William Weakley.)

William Rooke Weakley came to Australia on the ship ?Abberton?. He arrived at Port Adelaide, South Australia on October 29th 1850. On board with William was his Mother Amelia Rooke Davies and Stepfather James Davies. There was also 3 other children listed, no names, which we have not been able to trace as yet.

Amelia and James had a child Fanny Amelia Davies, born 21 May 1852 and died 18 Sep 1852 in Adelaide, South Australia, Australia.
