1 | Family tradition said that William Weakley, father of William Rooke Weakley, (Son of Amelia Rooke and William Weakley) was one of the Life-Guards of Queen Victoria in the 1830s and was killed in Spain while on a vacation watching a duel between two Dons. When William left with the military he never knew about his child William Rooke Weakley. Researched by Mrs. Lucy Ripley, (in Yorkshire, England) to prove or disprove this family tradition. Lucy wrote to the Editor of the Household Brigade Magazine (Horse Guards, Whitehall) London, to find information on William Weakley. Her letter was passed on to the Headquarters of the Regiment, who sent the following information: ?Number 371 ? William Weakley, served as a Private in the First Life Guards. Enlisted 1st Life Guards on 25 Oct 1828 Age on enlistment: 20 years nil months Trade on Enlistment: Farmer Discharged by purchase on 28 Dec 1833 Total service ? 5 years, 67 days Character on discharge: Very good. (According to our records he was not married during his service.)? This and other information also personal stories have been handed down from Emily Hales Duncan Weakley wife of William Rooke Weakley, (Son of Amelia Rooke and William Weakley.) William Rooke Weakley came to Australia on the ship ?Abberton?. He arrived at Port Adelaide, South Australia on October 29th 1850. On board with William was his Mother Amelia Rooke Davies and Stepfather James Davies. There was also 3 other children listed, no names, which we have not been able to trace as yet. Mr. (Joseph) Dyson was an educated man, able to draw up legal papers, so he was a very useful man in the community, an was called the "Squire". He is listed as one of the parents paying tuition to Wharton's School in Pleasant City in 1838. He died young leaving ten children, the oldest of whom had just reached man's estate. 7 | "Olive changed her name (by Deed Poll I understand) from Olive Amy Evelyn Duncan to Olive Agar Duncan, the Ager being some family name of her own mother's side, this I believe was done for professional purposes as she taught music, voice production, dramatic art etc. and was acting with the University Players in these rolls she went by Olive Ager. I had letters from her up till a year after mother (Clara Edith Kelly nee Duncan) died - 2 Feb 1928 - then no word, up to that time she wasn't married so don't know what happened to her. I recon she'd be about 37 then as she left Adelaide for overseas in 1915 and was then 25 I understand. Aunt Olive's address from America then - 13 Nov 1926 - was Suite 2-S Butler Hall 78 Morningside Drive New York City" This is part of a letter sent to Edna Muriel Bleckly Shutter about 1929. This letter is written by Doris Elma Kelly grand daughter of Alexander Frederick Duncan and Maria Crook and daughter of Clara Edith Duncan and Edwin William Kelly, and niece of Olive Amy Evelyn Duncan. | DUNCAN, Olive Agar (I2911)

40 | Birth: Copy of Pagham Parrish Record Marriage: Copy of Pagham Parrish Record Occupation: Farmer History: Francis Staker was born 23 Mar 1806 to Zaccheus and Mary Staker (nee Souter) at Pagham, a parish of Sussex, 6 miles S.E. of Chichester, England. Francis died 27 Feb 1871 in Spring Farm, Allens Creek, Kapunda, South Australia, Australia, and is buried in the old Methodist Church yard ? now Lutheran property ? at Allens Creek, near Kapunda, South Australia, Australia. The South Australia Register shows Harriet Paige Staker, wife of Francis, as having died on 31 Jul 1894 but the headstone on her grave at Caltowi, South Australia, Australia, and other sources show Harriet?s death 1 Aug 1894 age 85 years. Also the Death Certificate for Harriet Staker lists her Death Date as July 31, 1894. This Death Certificate in Australian Records Office had a ?Note of Correction? attached saying ?Harriet was the wife of Francis instead of James?. Francis, age 31, Harriet, age 27, and a male child age 3 years, arrived at Port Adelaide, South Australia, Australia on the ?Katherine Stewart Forbes? on 17th October 1837 having sailed from Gravesend, Kent, England on 29th April 1837 under Captain Alfred Fell. There was a Westleyan (or Primitive Methodist) Church at Allens Creek attached to the Kapunda Circuit. It was probably built in the 1860?s and was known as the ?Staker Church?. The land and chapel was transferred to the Lutheran Church in 1894 from the Staker family by agreement with a Mr. Sloan for the late Francis Staker. (Mr. Sloan is presumed to be Henry Sloan who married Eliza Maria Staker, daughter of Francis.) After the new Lutheran Church was built in 1907 the old chapel was used as a Church School and hall until it was demolished in 1964. Certificates held by a descendent show that Francis and Harriet were members of the Primitive Methodist Connexion in 1870 and 1873. Inscription on Headstone of Francis Staker: SACRED TO THE MEMORY OF FRANCIS STAKER Who died February 27th 1871 aged 66 years ?Blessed are the dead which die in the Lord Yea saith the Spirit That they may rest from their labours.?
